This policy explains how Askalon Industries registered in Lausanne, Switzerland (“Askalon”, “we”), handles personal data on our website (askalonindustries.com) and in the Sentinel mobile app.
We process personal data under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, for users in the EU/EEA, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Contact for any privacy request: contact@askalonindustries.com.
3. Website
Cookies. The site uses cookies necessary for it to function, and anonymous analytics cookies to measure traffic. We use no advertising cookies. A consent banner lets you accept or manage cookies; disabling some may affect functionality.
Contact form. Data you submit via the contact form is used only to respond to your request (information, meetings, invoicing). Legal basis: consent. It is kept for five years after our last interaction, then deleted. It is not shared outside Askalon.
4. Sentinel App
Sentinel is an acoustic detection tool that alerts users to nearby drones and Shahed-class threats. It involves more sensitive processing than the website, so this section is specific.
What we collect and why
- Account (email). Via Google or Apple Sign-In, for authentication and cross-device account continuity. Legal basis: contractual necessity.
- Approximate location. To match you with anonymous peer alerts in your chosen radius and render the map. Legal basis: contractual necessity.
- Precise location. Held in memory only to tag a detection with where it happened. Never stored.
- Detection audio. While detection is active, ambient audio is sent to our servers, analysed by our models to produce a Detection, and then discarded. It is not retained for training unless you enable Contribute Mode.
- Contribute Mode audio (opt-in only). If you turn it on, short audio segments and the labels you give them are retained to improve our models. Off by default. Legal basis: consent.
- Device identifiers. An anonymous device ID created at install, and an Apple/Google push token, to deliver alerts. Legal basis: contractual necessity / consent for notifications.
- Crash and diagnostic logs. Sent to Sentry (EU-hosted) on errors, containing technical data only. Legal basis: legitimate interest in reliability and security.
Retention
- Account data: for the life of the account; deleted on request.
- Alerts (approx. position, time, classification): 24 hours.
- Precise GPS: never stored.
- Detection audio (Contribute Mode off): discarded after inference, not retained.
- Contribute Mode audio: retained after irreversible anonymisation (removal of email, device ID, and precise location within 30 days of upload), to retrain our models.
- Session tokens: 1 hour. Crash reports: 90 days.
Account deletion
To delete your Sentinel account and all associated data:
- In-app: open Settings → tap “Delete Account”.
- By email: send a request to contact@askalonindustries.com from your registered email.
How we use data, and limits we commit to
We use your data only to run and improve Sentinel. We do not:
- sell or rent your personal data or audio;
- use it for advertising or profiling;
- share audio, content, or any dataset derived from it with defence, military, intelligence, or law-enforcement bodies, public or private;
- share raw (non-anonymised) audio with any third party.
Any future academic research partner would receive only anonymised data under a written agreement carrying these same limits, disclosed here before it takes effect.
Processors we rely on
- Google Ireland Ltd. — Sign-In, Android push (FCM), Play distribution.
- Apple Distribution International Ltd. — Sign in with Apple, iOS push (APNs), App Store.
Data in transit is encrypted. Access to production systems is restricted to authorised personnel.
Your rights
Under the FADP and GDPR you can access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your data, and object to processing. In the app you can delete your account and all associated data (Settings → Delete account), turn off Contribute Mode (Settings → Recording mode), and disable notifications (device settings). To exercise any right or withdraw consent: contact@askalonindustries.com. EU users also have the right to complain to their national data-protection authority; Swiss users, to the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC).
