1. Eligibility and permitted use
You must be at least 16 (or the higher local digital-consent age). Where the Service is deployed for a household or community that may include minors, the adult who installs and operates the device is responsible for that deployment. The Service is for lawful civilian situational awareness only, and must not be used for military targeting, offensive operations, or in breach of export-control or sanctions rules, including the Swiss Goods Control Act.
2. Licence
Askalon grants you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the App for situational awareness. This covers individuals and non-profit, humanitarian, or community organisations providing drone early warning to communities they serve. It does not cover reselling, paid provision to third parties, or building a competing product. You may not reverse-engineer (except as law allows), scrape, or circumvent access controls.
3. Accounts
You sign in via Apple or Google; we store no password. Keep your device secure, don’t share your account, and report suspected misuse to contact@askalonindustries.com.
4. Audio, location, alerts
Detection captures ambient audio while active; segments are sent to our servers, analysed, and then discarded (unless you enable Contribute Mode). You are responsible for any consent legally required from others whose sound may be captured, and must not run detection where recording is unlawful. Coarse location powers proximity alerts and the map; you can revoke it in device settings. You authorise detection-related notifications, which you can disable anytime.
5. Data and model improvement
How we use audio and data, including Contribute Mode, anonymisation, and our commitments never to sell your data or share it with defense, military, intelligence, or law-enforcement bodies, is set out in our Privacy Policy, incorporated here by reference. For audio you contribute, you grant Askalon a worldwide, royalty-free licence to use it, in anonymised form only, to train and evaluate our models and publish aggregate research.
6. Peer broadcast
Detections your device generates may be relayed to nearby users in anonymised form (no account or device identifier visible to peers). This is inherent to the Service.
7. NOT AN EMERGENCY SERVICE
Read carefully. Sentinel is a situational-awareness tool, not a certified early-warning or air-defense system. Detections are probabilistic and subject to false positives, false negatives, delay, and hardware limits; range and reliability vary with device, weather, terrain and noise, and may be very limited against small, fast, or low-signature drones. Do not rely on Sentinel to protect life or property, as a substitute for official sirens or government/military alerts, or for evacuation, shelter, medical, or first-responder decisions. On any suspected threat, contact local authorities and follow official instructions. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Askalon is not liable for injury, death, or loss arising from reliance on the Service.
8. Prohibited uses
No harassing, stalking, or surveilling individuals; no spoofing or falsifying detections; no unlawful content; no export-control or sanctions breaches; no integration into any weapon, autonomous platform, or targeting system; no attempting to re-identify users from anonymised data.
9. IP, third parties, changes
The App, models, code, and Askalon and Sentinel marks remain Askalon’s property. The Service relies on Apple, Google, MapLibre/OpenStreetMap, Sentry, and our host, each under their own terms. We may change these Terms with at least 15 days’ notice for material changes; continued use means acceptance.
10. Warranty, liability, indemnity
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, to the extent permitted by law. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Askalon is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. Nothing excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything that cannot lawfully be excluded under Swiss law. You agree to indemnify Askalon for claims arising from your breach of these Terms, your content, your violation of others’ rights (including recording-consent rights), or your breach of law.
11. Termination
Either you or we may terminate at any time (you: Settings → Delete Account). On termination your licence ends and account personal data is deleted within 30 days; anonymised data already used to train models remains in those models. Sections 5, 7, 10, and this clause survive.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by Swiss law (excluding conflict-of-laws rules and the UN CISG). Exclusive jurisdiction is Lausanne, Switzerland, subject to any mandatory consumer rules letting you sue where you live. This governs the contract; your statutory data-protection rights under the FADP and, where applicable, the GDPR are unaffected.
